Re: Div4 promotions
I know there are discussions being had about div 4 and promotions. Yes … some of my (not Slalom Committee) thoughts: When reasonable numbers enter a Div 4 event the current promotion ratio of 1 in 5 is easy to understand. In most cases the paddlers achieving a promotion place will have performed to...

Re: ACM Motion 6.2 Paddle Up Priority
Duncan From the ACM: "Ranking percentile is the current ranking position divided by the number in the division rounded to a whole percentage. E.g. if there are 70 in the division, the 16th placed athlete will be 16/70*100 = 22.85%, rounded to 23%." I was therefore expecting the percentiles to be spr...

Re: Symonds Yat
Big thanks Alison and all the team from Cheltenham CC for pulling out all the stops to get us through a great day of racing on Saturday before the river went up (and up and up ….). It's not been a good year weather wise for races at Symonds Yat, hope 2019 smiles on you more favourably.

Re: Calculating points for inquorate, VET and PU
I have returned to competition this season as a K1M Veteran and competed at a mix of Div 3 and Div 2 slaloms. I like the new Vet options. Regarding points I believe they should be earnt so if I wish to gain max points at an event I should match or better the score of the winning K1M in the correspon...

Re: Championship Format in Prem
In response to both Debs and Silver Surfer: The Saturday format gave three runs to just 12 paddlers (3 per category), everyone else had the normal two runs. Therefore, this format only denied race opportunity to 6 paddlers not 20! With the Sunday format no significant extra time is needed. Premier i...

Re: Ranking and Promotion
We must also undo the damage caused to our divisional system over the past few years by a certain person working to his own misguided ideas on the best way to run our sport, and that includes abolishing paddle ups. This is a somewhat harsh and unjust comment. Paddle up (PU) serves 3 purposes: 1. Ac...

Re: Ranking and Promotion
What if, rather than raise the promotion targets, we based your ranking and promotion on your best five results from your last twelve races? I’m not sure Nick’s suggestion would make much difference. A vast majority of the Div 2 promotees have their best 5 results comfortably in their last 12 event...

Re: Ranking and Promotion
After all, are we really 'Holding people back' as it may not be a bad thing to spend at least one season in each of the 4 divisions currently available. Nick is absolutely correct. Our Olympic K1M champion competed at his first Div 4 slalom just before his 12th birthday and by his 14th birthday had...

Re: Championship Format in Prem
So what next? Well we tried something different so the Slalom Committee will review the race and decide what to do next year. World Ranking points or not. Standard Prem, super Final or Championship? Single Semi or a and b semis. Interesting that there is no mention of the format that a very large n...

Re: Prem is dead Long live Div 1P
Newsflash - most racing paddlers either don't read this forum, or read but don't post because they think it is more for officials/committee/parents than for them. There is clearly a need to engage more with racers to find out stuff like: - Are they happy about the PU situation? - Are they happy pay...

Re: Prem is dead Long live Div 1P
One year ago my son failed to get an entry for the McConkey Prem because he missed the 4-week priority entry deadline - lesson was learnt and all entries now submitted more than 4 weeks in advance. This is not a new rule this season. In the "Time to limit or split Premier Division ?" thread, Nick ha...

Re: Superfinal Format at Prem Races
I personally agree with Nick and disagree with Colin. I regard 1st runs as effectively semis not qualification. Paddlers at the top of the sport have just one opportunity to deliver a run good enough to qualify for a final. Also, Nick has already pointed out the time implications of paddlers qualify...

Re: Superfinal Format at Prem Races
There seems to be fairly broad agreement about what is good and not so good about super-final races. If the Czech model is considered it should suit everyone. All paddlers take Run 1 in bib order. Top 10 progress to super-final (maybe less in small category?) Non-finalists take 2nd run in bib order....

Re: Selection Policy Open for Consultation
alpaterson makes some very valid comments which I'm sure are shared more widely. There are many factors which have to be considered: 1. The intention to hold Junior Selection at Lee Valley was included in last year's selection policy and confirmed in the International Panel statement of 11th April 2...
