Oooh, I wasn't AT ALL suggesting that a 50 on one run only would put you at the bottom - I was talking about 'best runs' only; so if you had 50s on both runs; I meant merely if your best run includes a 50, you should be below those whose best run does not include a 50. I don't know how this would w...

Wow, obviously something that has struck a few people! Munchkin, I totally agree that people should be encouraged to compete, hence I don't think disqualification should be the penalty; I just think that ability to get gates should be rewarded more highly. I think paddlers are supposed to 'try' for...

At Shepperton, they did try to take it into account - the original course plan had just one gate where 10 and 11 were (on Saturday), and this was changed for the express reason of avoiding people not going for the gates. I don't think disqualification is necessarily fair - because sometimes even if...

I'm very interested in other people's views - is a 50 second penalty enough for missing a gate? I am quite willing to admit that the reason I've been wondering about this, is because at the first 2 races of the season there have been 2 or more people who have finished above me, who have missed gate...

... but I've written a canoe slalom based Murder Mystery Dinner Party Game, if anyone wants a copy of the files (just word docs) I can email it out, if you fancy running one yourself. I've written it for 10 people, for an evening. It's only very loosely based on canoe slalom, the characters are ent...

I don't really think that it's a 'numbers' game that we need to play to prevent people getting promoted too quickly. (If it has any relevance at all, I was promoted from div 4 to 1 in less than a season, (2 years ago) and I'm doing OK-ish in div 1 - and in fact, I do much better on the 'bigger' cou...

As the topic says really, anyone got an old c1 lying around that they would like to sell me, just to have a play in (my 'success' (ie, I didn't swim) the one time I've raced one has encouraged me enough to want to try some more). Happy to do some repairs. Based in the South East but travel a lot, o...

I was indeed a Sunday paddler. Nicky was typing for me, blame him for the typo, should have been "crosses". I did them ok-ish on my practice run, swam on the 3rd cross on my first run, and didn't want to risk ending up without a time, so went the whole way round, every time, on my second run. And I...

I'm terrible and managed all of the gates on my second run! If you didn't go for the cross, it was really easy, it just took a mighty long time!!! It was a hard course if you did it properly, and like most courses there was an easy "slower" option. This time the proper way saved you about a week, r...

Hi all, I'm the organiser of the BUSA white water race, which takes place on the Washburn on the 9th-11th November. Due to unprecedented entry this year - over 350 people - we haven't got enough bibs! We've got 200 WWR bibs, and Shepperton and the Washburn Slalom Committee are kindly lending us som...

Hello, I'm after reccomendations for sites to visit for slalom training in Europe this summer. I'm heading out in August, driving, I need to go to Munich first of all and eventually end up in Belgium for a polo tournament... In between I want to do some slalom paddling! At the moment I'm thinking o...
