Re: Quorate event dilemma.

Jim
You are right - it is another of these complications that we put ourselves into in our desperate efforts to be 'fair'. And within a few more races both have probably been promoted, so it does not matter anyway!

Re: Championship Format in Prem

At some stage this thread was shanghaied from being a discussion about the difficulties caused by Prem formats (see title) to become an 'us and them' battle between paddlers and volunteers. Not only is this a pity - it is, I think, a misrepresentation. There is a 70% - 80% crossover between voluntee...

Re: Online Entries - The Future - Have your Say?

Jim makes a valid point where C1 is concerned However free entry for C2's would have very little cost impact ad ot much revenue impact, and would help with the matters discussed on the simultaneous C2 thread. There are already organisers who provide C2's and paddles, and older paddlers to effectivel...

Re: Simplifying Vets

Most of this looks fine; but I have a problem with Mike's post or rather, with an effect of it.

Last time I had to select a Pan-Celtic Team I needed to be able to get all Masters ranked together: how to compare 'ranked Masters' with Vets? I had to transpose the whole season's results!

The Washburn doesn't have either wifi or mobile connectivity - Grandtully doesn't have mobile connectivity on a lot of networks

Re: C2 Structure for 2018 Season

Sorry - that was just an afterthought - I did not intend to hijack the discussion on C2's. However worth pointing out that the 'free-for-all' that you describe is how things happen for most races in France; and in Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Poland, Greece, Italy, Spain, Portuga...

Re: C2 Structure for 2018 Season

As so often in Slalom, I think we are over-complicating in the search for a mythical Holy Grail of 'fairness'. Simple solution: One division (so no issues about promotion etc); points by comparison to K1M. No need for adjustments, because no question of promotion. Bibs only to help judging. And it d...

Re: British Canoeing AGM

Losers? My heart sank before I even got beyond the title page of the new British Canoeing strategy Its title is 'STRONGER TOGETHER' A slogan most recently used by Hilary Clinton's election campaign (she lost) and by the Remain Campaign in the Referendum (they lost) In both cases they are reckoned to...

The things I do for my sport! I have spent c. 12 hours since this thread opened reading the BCU Memorandum of Association (and comparing it with the .gov.uk Model Articles of Association for Companies Limited by Guarantee - not much comparison there ... so when anyone tells you that the BCU runs the...

Re: 6.11 Portable Points

As soon as something like this comes up, we start talking about Divisions - about Promotion - in fact about Rationing (in this case we are saying that there are not enough racing slots on rough water for all the people who want to race on rough water: so how do we decide who 'deserves' them most..?)...

Re: 6.15 Div 1 Practice

I am not entirely clear whether JBS’ post is about racing on rough water; or about the emotional effects of competition; or both. JBS says ‘I am convinced too many youngsters are being pushed through too quickly’. This cannot be said as a generalisation; and as a judgement on an individual it can on...

Re: 6.15 Div 1 Practice

Sorry, but those arguments are self-cancelling. The reason why young paddlers 'can't read the water don't know the course' is not because we fast-track them into Prem - on the contrary it is because unlike every other slalom nation we use our Divisional system to stop paddlers racing the races they ...

Re: Demos - Paddle up + Portable points impacting numbers?

It would require a (long overdue) development of the role of Slalom Clubs 2 situations where it works: in GB: Interclubs in France: at all slaloms Situation where it used to work: Inter-regionals at Llangollen What do those three have in common? Entries were/are submitted by the club/region, not by ...
