Re: Championship Format in Prem
Totally agree with Debs, I don't see the need or point of a championship format in domestic races. If padders were asked up front, I'm sure they would also say they don't want the championship format. The format on Sunday was ridiculous and many paddlers who didn't make the final on the first run, e...

Re: Ranking and Promotion
Agree 100% with Arrowcraft. Sometimes we make changes without understanding why. It will be interesting to see if David Floerence and Adam Burgess are demoted from Premier C1M this year, it's not the first time David hasn't secured enough points to stay up - will the Slalom committee give him yet an...

Re: C2 Structure for 2018 Season
I agree the Olympics should only have sports where for them it's the pinnacle of their sport. I would love for football, tennis, golf etc to be dropped, they won't as the Olympic movement is about what is commercial viable and what they can sell to the mass public. But the fact remains, it's not the...

Re: C2 Structure for 2018 Season
Sorry, I don't agree the Olympics are the pinnacle, the World Champrionships are, win that and you are the best, that's what every althelete strives for, to be the best in their sport. Once the Olympics used to be the pinnacle of most sports, now it's just a commercial venture, and sadly carries wit...

Re: C2 Structure for 2018 Season
It's highly unlikely that C2 will get the support at all levels whilst it's classified as a non-Olympic event. British Canoeing don't receive funding for any non-Olympic classes, it's therefore not in their interest to support it, as they have to maximise their medal winning opportunities to retain ...

Re: Championship Format in Prem
Thank you for the update, all makes sense, although I don't agree with running 3 races in that way. So did those entered into 3 races, with the guarantee of 4 runs pay a higher entry fee ?

Re: Championship Format in Prem
.. to add, picking up on JimW comment, Also British paddlers qualifying as internationals were not eligible for the British Open Champion title If correct does that mean Jono Atkinson is the British Open K1M Champion and not Joe Clarke ? The top 4 paddlers in the final were GBR internationals, Jono ...

Re: Championship Format in Prem
I'm sorry, but it still doesn't make sense. Maybe I'm looking at things too simplistically, but then maybe that's the issue with Premier Races today, we are trying to over complicate things with so called Championship formats, without actually asking why, and whats the benefit. The published rules f...

Re: Championship Format in Prem
The way the British Open was run raises further questions over fairness when a Championship format is used. In both K1W and K1M Premier paddlers tagged as GBR were allowed to paddle in the final on Sunday despite not qualifying for the final. Why ? The rules stated that in both the Premier Race and ...

Re: Championship Format in Prem
Personally I don't know why we believe there is a need to mess with the original domestic format of 2 runs for everyone, best run counting. Why is there such a big push for the so called European format, Championship format ? Who does this really benefit? I think we have become obsessed of late with...

Re: 6.15 Div 1 Practice
Basis behind the proposal is to provide a more graduated approach to paddler development, currently we race kids through the ranks to Prem than find they can't read water don't know the course and struggle Maybe if we stopped trying to fast track kids to the prem division with paddle up and portabl...

Re: Tees Barrage Prem Race 10/Pan Celtic & Division 1 Race
Hi Les, Can you confirm if there is still a requirement for paddlers who have paddled at Tees Barrage previously to sign in at the reception area before getting on the water? I recollect in previous years there was requirement to sign in still, even though Tees Barrage had all their signed paper work...

Re: Demos - Paddle up + Portable points impacting numbers?
This issue has been raised before, paddle up/portable points does impact the number of paddlers available to do judges and demo runs. But those voting in favour of portable points believe the benefits outweigh the downsides. Personally I disagree, I think we are trying to fix something that isn't br...
