“The King of Slalomia”

I have just read “The King of Slalomia” the new book from Bill Endicot and Fabien Lefevre. It is about the exceptional career of Fabien who has the most varied and multi class medal haul in the history of the sport. I highly recommend it as a must read for any aspiring slalom racer and possibly less...

Re: How to patch a canoe slalom boat.

Nice artical/video and very helpful to many I am sure. It would be worth mentioning a few safety tips on using the chemicals as both the dust caused in sanding and effects of the resin on the skin and eyes can be very damaging. I would highly recomend the use of a mask, proective goggles and gloves....

Funded Travelling Fellowships Seek CanoeistsMike Jones Award

Funded Travelling Fellowships Seek CanoeistsMike Jones Award. A few slalom paddlers have successfully got this grant to go and train abroad. It might be worth a shot if yout can show you can also put something back into the sport on your return. The funding they give could be quite significant and c...

Slalom Coach Needed Mid Wales.

For the past eighteen months I have helped establish a group of youngsters some of whom are now taking their first steps into slalom competition. Unfortunately I will not be around Mid Wales much longer to help them and so we are looking for a slalom coach to help guide them and run some sessions. M...

Re: GB Selection Policy

Seeing that racing is about performing under pressure. How about one race of one run selection event. First past post takes the spot. USA sport has done it for years. No discretion debate required, no I.P. needed! Nice and easy to organise. Every one knows where they stand. Performance rules! All bi...

Re: publication of start lists

Just want to reiterate what Sven said. " a massive thank you to all those people who organise and run events! Brilliant job!"

For that matter, thanks to anybody who helps make the sport work. What a amazing sport slalom racing is!!!

Re: GB Selection Policy

[quote] The paddler cost for the World Championships is £1500 and for the European Championships is £700. Over 60% of the costs are met by GB Canoeing so for the Worlds, the total cost is £3750.

£3750!!! That really is some trip.

What does that price include?

Re: Encouraging C1 Women

With all this talk of funding funding funding, it might be good to remember that their was a time before World Class funding came along when Britain was a very successful slalom nation. If any athlete out there believes it is all about funding, they are very much mistaken. To be successful requires ...

Re: GB Selection Policy

Boatmum, if we now change the debate to UKR, the kids will follow the link. I think you are maybe underestemating them a little. I am sure they are a lot smarter than you or I when it comes to the net and finding what you want. I also think most, if not all will see this debate as a good thing and w...

As Silver Surfer David " The purpose of an open forum is to express ones views, and I am exercising my rights to do that. To some this may appear insensitive, not politically correct, or just mean spirited. I am sorry if people feel that way. I know that I am not alone in my views on the selection p...

Re: GB Junior European Team

Whilst 6th place in the worlds is a fantastic result for a developing paddler, who I am sure we will see even greater things in the future. What I said is factual. My main point is still that percentages when comparing between classes does not work and the variation in standard of our MK 1 year on y...

Re: GB Junior European Team

I think we need to separate team selection from funding... We should always aim to send a full team into major Internationals, even if boats # 2 & 3 are really only going for experience it will develop and support the wider sport. Per centages are often required for funding - we need to show to UK ...

Re: Encouraging C1 Women

Percentages do not work when comparing classes as all depends on the water and where the designer puts the gates. Let's not even start on whether the paddlers are left or right handed.
