Re: The Olympic Legacy?
I may have slightly crossed wires with 747boy LVPRA may be building a clubhouse - but I do not see how they would have the skillsets, or the contacts, to create a club - and there is no indication on their website that I can find of their having Sports Development capacity. Clubhouses are fine - but...

The Olympic Legacy?
Some sports – Cycling, Athletics, Hockey anyway – were clear about what an Olympic Legacy would look like for them – in all those cases, more club members, and more club members competing, in their sports. It is hard to get a similarly clear one-sentence picture of what the Olympic Legacy in Canoe S...

Re: Cleaning Up The Mess
Phil 1) Yes I have statistical evidence about the prospects in Slalom (for both 'stay' and 'improve') for paddlers who race 3 or less races in a season; for paddlers who race 4-8 races in a season; and for paddlers who race 9+ races a season (they are predominantly the only ones who contribute to th...

Re: Cleaning Up The Mess
I think you misunderstand Phil's point about fixed and variable costs of section judges etc. What he is saying is that if the entry at a Div 1 goes up by 10% the cost of section judges does not go up by 10%: they are already there and paid for. (Sorry - but I used to teach accountancy!)

Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa
I was the Jury member responsible for checking results, and I failed to spot that one!
You have two choices - leave it there, or, as Duncan says, appeal to have it reduced

My understanding - and the aim of the motion when originally proposed - was/is that errors can be corrected, but without changing everyone else's result in such a way that there was no way of finding out what final results actually were.

Re: Our sport is a mess
Oh dear - I may be at risk of getting shot for repeating myself (for the last 12-15 years) Over that time I have been saying that what is needed is a coach - or a group of coaches - or a parent - or anyone - to get a group of young people together, and say to them 'I (or someone) will coach you once...

Re: Controversial Pre selection
But seriously ... When Lottery Funding came in it was a hard and fast UKSport/SportEngland Rule that the voluntary parts of sport should not be allowed to interfere in how it was spent by the 'professionals' - and this included all contol of GB/Olympic Teams etc. Most sports had to rewrite their con...

Re: Terms of Reference for Coaches
Steve This arises from preconceived ideas within BCU Coaching of what Coaching is, and what attributes a Coach requires. When I was first involved in recreational coaching (in the late 1970's) it seemed to me that the most important thing a coach was meant to do was to rescue paddlers, and the secon...

reply to Robin: e-mail me on john.sturgess@gedling.gov.uk or ECSTCoach@jsturgess.freeserve.co.uk and I will send you any figures you want: there is nothing secret about it (and the same applies to anybody else) I used Top Ten/Top Four Clubs not as a measure of quality (tho' I think it is) but simply...
