Re: British Canoeing - Club Consultation Survey (Not the same as Stronger Together 2021-2025 survey)

What and when are you doing to celebrate this achievement - it needs to be done before the slalom season starts!

Re: 6.5 Junior Equipment
Completely agree Davy
Jonny's coaches and fellow paddlers never considered that his boat was unfair and it is hard to undo bad habits if equipment is too big.
Sadly, there was a parent who did try to cause trouble by claiming this was cheating which seemed a tad harsh on a 9 year old

Re: 6.7 Organiser Discretion on Accepting Paddle Ups
I think part of the issue is combined Prem/Div 1 races where the Prem is always on the Saturday and the Div 1 on the Sunday. Paddlers travelling want to compete both days particularly if you have travelled 300 miles each way. It is also beneficial to your Sunday race if you have raced on the Saturda...

Re: 6.2 Entry Fees
Peter Your suggestions seem very reasonable. So, I would see the amendment to the motion being split into 3 for price increases for Divisions as follows a) Prem/Div 1 b) Div 2 c) Div 3/4 I did like the suggestion that the increase gets phased in over 2-3 years. I think Prem/Div 1 can increase immedi...

Re: 6.2 Entry Fees
Div 1 and Prem entry fees These events are national events where committed paddlers attend races all over the country and entry fees are only a small percentage of the actual costs of the sport. I think most paddlers will accept the increase in fees at this level if it is explained why the fees are...

Re: 6.2 Entry Fees
So, could we have recommended fees, minimum and maximum fees and each organiser charges what they think is reasonable based on previous years income and expenditure? This would allow for some of the variation in costs and numbers. It is probably impossible to have the one size fits all model going f...

Re: 6.2 Entry Fees
Chris Each individual club will be able to tell you what they make/do not make from running a Slalom Race but this is not information that we submit to the Slalom committee. The income from entries can be fairly easily calculated using the online results. Our club can make money from running a cafe ...

Re: Promotion and 50's
This is an interesting topic! I think I would agree that you should not be promoted with a '50'. Given that most slaloms have less than 25 gates , you can't actually get 50 penalty seconds without missing a gate and getting a '50'. How many people has this applied to this year? I would suspect very ...

Re: Paddler Retention
Excellent suggestion Steve. We've got a training group from a few clubs working together. You don't have to hit targets to get into it and you can't be turfed out but the paddlers are grouped according to which division they are in so they can take part in the training days that suit them. It is rea...

Re: Paddler Retention
An interesting point regarding raising motions at the AGM. This is certainly a good way of getting some points discussed and voted on. However, the funded program does not come under the Slalom committee remit and so we cannot put motions to the AGM re how squads operate. Many of those commenting on...
