Re: Encouraging C1 Women

Totally agree JJayes, money doesn't make the athlete. When I talk about funding I am referring to availability of coaching, water access time, gym facilities, physiotherapist, phycologists etc. these all make a difference. Anyone who is on a funding programme or non programme for that matter who has...

Re: Encouraging C1 Women

Sorry, I have to disagree, there are not 4 funded C1W paddlers, there is only 1 C1W funded paddler. There are sufficient funds to have C1W coached programmes, especially in England (I can't speak for the other home nations) - the point being made is that the CE programmes invite paddlers on as a C1W...

Re: Encouraging C1 Women

Mummsie, this is not a C2 vs. C1W debate or battle, both are equally as important, so no one is "whinging". The points being expressed are valid, C1W has been an underfunded, and unsupported class for far too long. Now that Olympic status has been sanctioned, and rightly so, all that is been asked i...

Re: Encouraging C1 Women

Hi Sueh, it was me who made the reference to the Gaz sessions at HPP in my GB Selection Policy post. I totally agree with what you have said, for far too long C1W has been the forgotten class. Every time this is raised, the same reason is given, it isn't an Olympic sport, there is no funding. Anyone...

Re: GB Selection Policy

Strange ! You were responding to my question on what other chatter boards are available. Actually, I asked that question in response to your statement "take this debate elsewhere on chatter". As far as I am concerned, like JJayes, the only available public forum for salmon discussions is this one. N...

Re: GB Selection Policy

As requested I have updated the title of the post, but my concerns and opinions remain the same. If you are aware of the appropriate slalom chatter board to raise awareness and concerns, other than this one, then please, do share as I am not. A public chatter board, is just that, public. Contacting ...

Re: GB Junior European Team

Those who have read my opening post, will note that I congratulated those on the GB team. This post is not about any specific paddler or any specific class but the selection policy itself, so please don't imply, directly or otherwise that I am being disrespectful to any paddler. I original raised a ...

Re: GB Junior European Team

Sending a full team, including those paddlers that don't make percentages for experience does not "develop and support the wider sport" as stated by Seedy Paddler. It sends out a message that if any class is weak at any point in time, then it is a meal ticket to get on a GB team. To develop the spor...

Re: GB Junior European Team

Munchkin we are are on the same page. If more people support this view, then and only then will change happen. The IP should be accountable, otherwise these issues will come up time and time again. Change never happens if people don't make a stance. I am sure everyone remembers the debacle over the ...

Re: GB Junior European Team

I am not advocating percentage targets, the selection policy drawn up and approved by the IP is. The whole of the GB funded programme is driven by percentage targets, so you are saying remove percentage targets period ? Paddlers have been dropped from funded programmes for not achieving the set perc...

Re: GB Junior European Team

I agree the policy was flawed from the start, I too raised my concerns which fell on deaf ears of the IP. I also started the posting after the draft paper was issued to discuss the same. The IP have been totally inconsistent in the way they have executed the policy this year. Contradicting the way i...

Re: GB Junior European Team

Still the point is being missed, in my original post I congratulated those on the team. The concern I have is the selection policy, and the whole saga of percentage targets. The percentage targets have blatantly being ignored, and the justification applied is "discretion". Based on what ? Where is t...

Re: Encouraging C1 Women

I agree percentages don't work across classes, so there is a definite advantage to paddling when quorate.

Re: Encouraging C1 Women

I would agree it isn't consistent between K1M/K1W/C1M and C1W/C2 when it comes to promotion from division 4 to 3 in the rule book. I must admit I thought the 1 in 5 promotion applied to all classes - which would make sense. Having said that, if it was a division 3 race, and the C1W was inquorate the...

Re: GB Junior European Team

You said "I do think that a full team should be selected for the European Championships if the paddler can demonstrate that they can cope with the water" Rightly or wrongly (there are mixed opinions) the current GB policy is to judge the ability of a paddler via performance percentage targets. Those...
