Many thanks to Ken and the other organisers and judges for a great British Open weekend. P/1 Veteran ranking positions are unchanged, although my best five total is now 241 points. The other final end of season scores remain as above. Congratulations to all and especially to George for a well-earne...

I think that Terryg is referring to the situation where a tie on best run results is resolved by looking at the score for the other run. Surely in this case the corresponding veteran points would simply be taken from the higher of the two main event paddlers with the relevant score?

For my own interest, I have kept track of the P/1 veterans. According to my reckoning, the current state of play is as follows, based on the best 5 results, with the British Open still to come: George Spittal: 4912 points Bob Grundy: 1468 points Andrew Close: 1295 points David Waine: 586 points Jer...

Congratulations to Phil and Howsham Mill - This is more like it! In my opinion we are being had by commercial operators of facilities that were initially built using large amounts of public (ie. our) money. Earlier this month I spent a Saturday afternoon on Cesson Sévigné near Rennes, Britanny (a p...

Many thanks for the link, Mark. I've pasted the recent statement by Tees Active (the operators) into this thread - see below: Dear Paddlers, We would like to give you an update on the course and the centre to keep you fully up to date. The centre - 90% complete. We have undergone an extensive refit...

Does anyone out there know what the current situation is concerning the Tees Barrage? Is there any remaining likelihood of any events there anytime this decade?!

So far there has been interest, but little movement, on this.
I am very flexible on the price - Offers are invited!!
I will be at the 'Tully double prem., so could deliver to there, if required.

Thanks,
Jerry.

Ridgeback Impulse folding cycle for sale. Well-ridden (!) but also well cared for, so still in very good condition. A practical road cycle that folds, rather than a tiny travel bike. Fits easily into car boots, etc. Great for city use or cross-training or for shuttle use on river trips, etc. I'm lo...

Spiderman's conception of the sport and attitude to paddling are so radically different to mine that it is probably pointless to try to enter into debate. However, I need to challenge his view that those of us who paddle in slalom primarily for personal growth and self-fulfillment have no right to ...

I personally have greatly enjoyed padling in the veteran category this season!! I raced seriously as a DV up until last year, but no longer have time for fitness orientated training owing to other commitments (a part-time PhD.). I changed to veteran status and have appreciated the challenge of padd...

I support Phil Stevo's general proposals given at the start of this thread and look forward to being able to race under age categories. I would particularly welcome some form of championship event on Div 1/prem water, in addition to the current National Veterans arrangements - having age bands at t...

Re: anti-slalom comments on the River's Guidebook forum: I am assuming that references to people in 'pointy boats' refer to slalom paddlers. There was also some earlier speculative comment about huge sums of money being spent on Olympic paddlers, possibly to buy access to water. Good paddling to al...

Comment on the River's Guidebook forum on this subject has started to take a pronounced anti-slalom turn and therfore we should perhaps pause for thought before jumping onto this particular bandwagon. Reading between the lines, it seems that this situation could in fact be an unfortunate business t...

I would welcome a National Vets Championship on a decent standard of water, rather than a Div. 3/4 course. The introduction of age bands at the British Open seems a good idea! International veteran events sound very appealing - with age bands like marathon masters worlds?? - I will watch for furthe...
