Re: Proposed rule change.
I'm sure a lot of Div 1 paddlers do what you say above - but anyone can enter as paddle up at start of season - so if you anticipate getting promoted mid season then enter as paddle up, then when your promoted you entry must be counted as received in Feb (as above) and in that division. I haven't s...

Re: Proposed rule change.
How do you propose to handle the extra entries? Are the newly promoted paddlers going to have precedence over paddlers already in the division, so that for every promoted paddler gaining an entry someone else is losing their place? Or are you suggesting that the extra entries are taken on top of the...

Re: Restructuring the divisions
Just had a thought due to the large right sizing done by the committee last year there doesn't appear to be an issue this year so far. Every Div 1 event has had paddle ups which means no event was actually full (at least until after the closing date). If there is any issue with single division even...

Re: HPP 1/2 7th & 8th May
Important note The course will be available to anyone for practice on Friday afternoon/evening from approximately 4.00pm, normal session fees will apply so you will have to first register at reception. There is a freestyle event taking place on the inlet wave on the Friday evening so please launch ...

Re: Restructuring the divisions
There seams to be several discussions going on hear. I agree with JJ. We should bring back events like Llangollen. I recon I raced there for at lest 27 years, in Div1, Prem and British Open. With not a singe incident. Swam the length of it when I changed to C2. Have we all got soft. It's all linked...

Re: Restructuring the divisions
I don't think we actually need more races at all, we just need to balance things up a bit. Division 1 races are mostly oversubscribed, some division 2 races get full but not all by any means, and division 3 and 4 can't stand on their own as the entries are paltry. One solution is to allow everyone t...

Re: Restructuring the divisions
Having more races at Div 1 also has an impact elsewhere - the more div 1 weekends there are, the more it takes volunteers away from lower division events. If I'm running or racing at a Div 1, I'm not available to run/help at a Div 2,3 or 4 event, and I'm not able to take and coach club paddler at t...

Re: Restructuring the divisions
Just another thought, perhaps we can get every event to declare when it was declared full and how many where on the waiting list on the day of the race. I'm not sure that data will be that useful, some people aren't entering because the events are full before they get to thinking about it, and then...

Re: Restructuring the divisions
That is pretty much my thinking. Slow down promotion by adjusting percentages and promotion targets, review division sizes at the end of each year and introduce more aggressive end of season demotion together with some end of season promotions to balance things up. There will be some knock-on effect...

Re: Rationing Entries
Going back to the subject of this thread, I am not happy with preventing paddlers from racing across classes. if we manage the numbers in division 1 more effectively it doesn't matter if the numbers are made up of people doubling up in the division or otherwise. If someone has the ability to race in...

Re: Rationing Entries
I have had another thought since my last post. In my day (don't I sound old) division 2 races were held on places like HPP, the Tryweryn and the Serpents Tail. These were very popular events and were usually oversubscribed. When I last tried to run a division 2 race at the Serpents Tail I think I ha...

Re: Restructuring the divisions
On the question of training and racing on hard white water, I think that there are very many paddlers in div one and Prem who do not have good white water and gate technique due to to fast a progression. If they do not have a very good level of accuracy and control on easier water then how can they...

Re: Rationing Entries
Great idea. Now all you need to do is to find some way of putting it into practice. Not some time in the endless future but next year or else we will continue have more disappointed paddlers and lose more people from the sport.stevepearson wrote:Increase capacity, don't restrict where there is demand
