Re: HPP 1/2 7th & 8th May

BTW I must thank Michelle Grudzinski for spotting that I hadn't sent the form to the right person and had sent it on for me.

Re: HPP 1/2 7th & 8th May

It turns out that the booking form was sent to the centre last August, so now I will be bouncing the problem back at them, but of course they are not in until Tuesday. I guess that we will still be facing the same problems that HPPCC are with their race though.

Re: HPP 1/2 7th & 8th May

Yes, I'm continuing to process the entries received. And of course anyone can cancel their entry if they can't make the new date and I'll shred the cheque.

Re: HPP 1/2 7th & 8th May

Due to an administrative error, totally my fault, we have failed to book the course on the weekend of the race. Other activities have been booked on the course for that weekend and we won't be able to run the race on the published dates. I will be investigating the possibility of moving it over the ...

Re: Looking After Each Other

Yes flush drowning is highly unlikely but what’s not is secondary drowning That doesn't appear to be true. Secondary drowning is very rare - the figures are that 1 - 2% of drownings are secondary drowning, and since drowning is pretty rare anyway we are talking very small risks. I have only heard o...

Re: Looking After Each Other

- Long Swims/ Drop out/ Flush drowning. At events like Shepperton or HPP swimmers regularly take long swims. At Shepperton all the way to the rowing club, at HPP 300/400 metres down stream. This has several possible outcomes: some of the worst include a paddler taking a long swim and suffering flus...

Re: Tully Paddle Ups - Second Class Paddlers...

This sounds as though this could be a valid reason for abolishing paddle-ups? We might then have enough judges at all the events. I don't think that follows. If it did then the div 1 races that are full would be inundated by div 2s wanting to judge. Dee This needs to be actively encouraged so the t...

Re: Event Safety

Well, I've done the course now, and it wasn't too onerous, though I have come away thinking that I could have done something else with my evening and not been any less informed. That is apart from finding out that a Safety Plan has to include measures for cancellation!!!!! However I have just receiv...

Re: Opening dates for entries -Personal Discussion thread

I know of a few who have left the sport when demoted from div 1 to div 2 and therein lies the problem with shrinking div 1 by demoting to div 2 It is probably the same paddlers that we are losing now because they can't get an entry. Few of the older paddlers want to have to plan their year in advan...

Re: Opening dates for entries -Personal Discussion thread

The problem is that division 1 is too big, and if we solve that we won't have to complicate things further. So promote some, demote others, get rid of paddle up (what a dreadful idea, why did it ever get through), slow down promotion in C1W and C2. Anything else? Put more div 2 events on water that...

Re: Opening dates for entries -Personal Discussion thread

I don't know why we are even discussing this. For the sport to work for its participants then they all should have a reasonable chance of getting an entry without having to plan the whole year as soon as the calendar is released. The system we use has been working for many years, when the sport as a...

Re: Post-dated cheques!

I generally don't bank the cheques until the week before the event by which time I should have a good idea whether the race is at risk of cancellation (though the thought of writing and posting over 100 cheques gives me the shivers). I still want to bank the cheques so that any problems can be sorte...

Re: Opening dates for entries -Personal Discussion thread

I think what is really needed is more div 1 races - i know, i know who is going to run them etc etc etc but with more races paddlers can then be restricted to entering a max number in any one season which would ease the oversubscription issue and open opportunities for paddleup entrants. I don't th...

Thanks for that Les, I have booked on. Though I have had to miss a chance of watching Villa vs. City from our company box!
