Clashing bib numbers
Each time we run a Div 2/3 event, we have the odd occasion where a time or penalties are recorded against the wrong paddler. This occurs because bib numbera are repeated in K1W, K1M, C1W and C1M. Because the C1 and womens entries are quite small we get the situation where there's only a few minutes ...

Nene whitewater course
Following the discussions after the recent Nene race (but not related to those discussions) it occurred to me that there were perhaps some perceptions about the course that could be addressed. It's noticeable that we always get a large Div 2 entry, and much smaller one from Div 3. I suspect some of ...

Re: Junior prizes
<quote>We've had instances where 1st J18,1st J16,1st J14,1st J12, have all gone to J12s and so 1st J12 is actually 4th J12. </quote>
That's exactly what happened to us this year - of the J16, J14 and J12, five of the six went to J12's.

Re: Junior prizes
My main point is that the rules need to be clear and unambiguous. These are not, hence the scope for disappointment and disagreement. We had an enforced 2 year break frojm running events, first due to a site double-booking, then Covid. It seems that during that 3-year period the general interpretati...

Re: 6.2 Veterans Points (75/25)
<quote>As I said above I would do the uplifts first and then compare the final results, so option one</quote> If it's done that way, there is unlikely to be any point in loking at the lower division results at all. If the uplift is applied afterwards, then there's a good chance that the lower divisi...

Re: 6.2 Veterans Points (75/25)
<quote>I thought the got the best of the points that they would have got in either of the divisions. In your case, of course, that would always be from the div 2 :D :D I could be wrong though.</quote> Even that can be read 2 ways. Suppose the paddler would match a Div 2 paddler who got 50 points, an...

Re: Junior prizes
Your wording does not match the intent or practice at the majority of competitions. I was told in the discussion after the prizegiving that the two-year-band interpretation was more common at Scottish events. The rule now renumbered as 1.4.8 (which is why I thought it was new) still supports the tw...

Re: 6.2 Veterans Points (75/25)
Just need a little clarification.
Where a VET score in a Div 2/3 event is complred with both Div 2 and Div 3 K1M to calculate points, and in the case where the points were found from the Div 3 class, should the difficulty factor applied be that for the Div 2 or the Div 3 event?

Re: Junior prizes
So having read the slightly revised 19.8.4 and the new 1.4.8 in the 2021 rules, I would suggest that to clarify what I see as the intention of the rules, rule 19.8.4 should be something like: "In all divisions when there are three or more eligible athletes, Organisers shall provide a prize for the J...

Junior prizes
At the Nene event this year, on day 1 I awarded the junior prizes as we had always done, to those paddlers whose age was shown as matching the category, i.e. the J16 prize went to the best paddler showing as J16. This immediately produced shouts of "that's wrong" from some supporters. A rather vocif...

Re: Can we find 500 new paddlers for 2022?
So far the discussion seems to have been how existing slalom clubs can increase their number of participants, or how to keep paddlers who have been in the squads. My problem is how to start from scratch in a club where there have been no slalom paddlers for 20 years and where only two members have e...

Re: What is the Spectators Race in Online Entries and What do I do?
I see that quite a lot of the paddlers entering our October Nene event have also entered as spectators. It even shows the spectators races as occurring on Saturday and Sunday. Are they expecting to get an extra event I wonder?

Re: BC Membership For Div 4 Races
Clubs are allowed to run taster sessions for non-members - officially up to three times per individual. This ought to apply to slalom as well.

Nene Div 2/3 open for entries - Oct 2nd/3rd
The Nene event is now open for entries. We ask all visitors (competitors and supporters) to please take a lateral flow test before attending. If this is positive, or if you have Covid-19 symptoms, please do not attend this event. The commercial cafe on site will be open, and operating to their own C...

Re: CanoeSlalomEntries Support for Covid Slaloms
It is a BC requirement not to post results at the event. Protests are a challenge. As far as I can see, the first of those makes the second impossible. If the paddlers don't know the result, how are they going to protest. It does perhaps depend on the meaning of "post results". Does it mean display...
