Re: Yat technical question
John, Making a weak link with a known break load is pretty straightforward if the material (preferably stainless steel) is purchased with its mill certificate that provides the tested breaking stress. Similarly, bolts (particularly high grade socket head screws) can usually be purchased with a test ...

Re: 6.2 Entry Fees
Dee, if you need accurate figures for CPI or RPI, they are all available on the Office of National Statistics website. Not necessarily the simplest site to navigate, but this link might be a start: https://www.ons.gov.uk/economy/inflatio ... /l55o/mm23

Re: 6.2 Entry Fees
I think the debate about fees needs to be set against the background of how we're doing in terms of attracting and retaining people in the sport. As many, but not all, are probably aware, we suffer from a steady decline in participant numbers, and particularly at the entry levels. (I can provide the...

Re: Paddler Retention
Arrowcraft - so many excellent observations and points raised. If you're not careful you'll have me ranting on again about the complete contrast between elite and grassroots funding, and what it might be doing to our sport, that I believe contributes to much of what you raise. What does worry me for...

Re: Paddler Retention
Mike, I couldn't agree more. If we want more people involved (as both retention and making sure we can offer the newcomer something sustainable are really important), we have to make our club structure stronger, and try and keep more paddlers engaged locally rather than push the achievement pyramid ...

Re: Paddler Retention
I'll be blunt. Whilst there are many valid points raised, I think the elephant in the room is that most paddlers leave slalom because they don't find it fun anymore. When many slalom paddlers become more independent from their parents, whether at uni or at work, they meet a different group of paddle...

Re: Hydra Sports
Steve & Ruth,
Thanks for all the effort and support you've put into the sport and the paddlers at all levels over the years. Good luck for the future.

Steve,
When you refer to "big beastie", are you talking boat or paddler?

Re: Fins on boats
Dear Canadian Paddler, Having a lovely time and wish you were here..... As usual with rules and contracts, wording can never anticipate everything and yet remain useable. Rule 39.1 is unequivocal in that starting a run with boat or equipment that does not conform with the rules should lead to disqua...

Re: Timing
I'm inclined to believe that inaccuracies in Tutti are more likely to be human errors than anything else (we still rely on people manually pressing buttons so it's no different to starting and stopping a stopwatch) and as Duncan rightly points out, co-ordinating two hands whilst trying to keep the r...
