Re: Pinkston Div 2/3 29/30 April

Late Change - warm up over the weekend will be on the canal, not on pitch 2 as stated in the event info document. This does cause extra boat-carry traffic past the spectator area so we ask that paddlers and spectators look out for each other (maybe don't crowd the pinch points). If you swim in warm...

Re: Pinkston Div 2/3 29/30 April

Most of the Scottish paddlers know I've been out of action with a trapped nerve for a while, so I haven't managed to repeat last years effort of taking lots of photos of the centre and course for those who haven't been before. I do however still have a link to all of last years photos on facebook, n...

Pinkston Div 2/3 29/30 April

We still have plenty of spaces left for entries in Pinkston slalom next weekend. If you have never been before and are nervous about your first time on the artificial course, check out the amount of practise time we have scheduled ahead of the races. All ranked paddlers are welcome to join in the ap...

Re: Bibs

I'm sure I saw a message about something else that mentioned a delay in getting the bib applications open, but I can't remember what the message was or the reason given... For C1 if you are going into division rather than vets, you should send Nick Penfold an email to let him know your experience an...

Re: 6.6 Required NF Membership 75/25

SCA members can login to the portal before their renewal and specifically check a box to receive a card (at least I did at end of June 2022), but it is just a piece of paper now, not plasticised in any way (good for environment, poor for durability). I recommend everyone use this option to ensure it...

Re: 6.6 Required NF Membership 75/25

Honestly, this whole can of worms needs to be sorted out in detail and organisers given proper guiidance on which memberships they should be selling, because it really isn't clear. For example, do we sell the membership of the NF in whose jurisdiction the race is taking place, or do we sell the memb...

Re: 6.8.1 Include SUP in Slalom

The ACM cycle is too long to wait, I would propose introducing something right away with a view to refining it when you have a year of test data to work with rather than postponing because there is no data. How will you get data unless you have some races? Involvement of the SUP committee is also key.

Re: ACM Time

Whenever I have looked at going in the past, accommodation costs have always been bizarrely high which put on top of travel costs and everything else has always put me off. With the way my back is right now, I can't even commit to a journey that long, Tully is about my limit (or Penrith for an examp...

Re: 6.11.2 Ability to hold four races in one weekend, two on each day

Home water .... technically possible ... blah blah My home water results this year were terrible, in fact many paddlers didn't place right on top with home water advantage, only close. Talent will rise to the top. All sorts of anomolous things happen as it is, the chances of paddle up results contri...

Re: Is it worth copying the ACM motions to the chat line

In the absence of a more official forum for such things, yes. I would have to say that the majority of paddlers and parents I talk to don't like this forum, they are nervous to put their heads above the parapet and post anything, so tend not to bother checking it either. I'm afraid I have no ideas f...

Re: 6.5 Introduction of a new, plastic boat event

What generally puts people from a non-racing background off (call them plastic boaters if you want to, but that differentiation seems daft to me), is the number and complexity of the rules. I'm fully behind trying to encourage such people to have a go, but you need to do it by simplifying things, no...

Re: Vet getting too many points

As I understand Ship's original observation and suggestion for a change, if you had gone to the Yat and beaten the winner you would have scored 650 points, not 500. It's not the compensatory 40 points or even the uplift when you beat some prems that there seems to be a problem with, its simply that ...

Re: Clashing bib numbers

Yes and no. Because you have a div 2/3 event you don't have any paddle ups, try running a div 1 or prem where you have 2 paddlers in the same class wearing the same bib in different colours! The way around this is to make sure your judges are properly briefed to write down each change of class on th...

Re: Officials Ranking Complier needed!

I struggle to find time to do everything I already need to do.

I was trying to suggest using the existing rules to simplify things (I hope it came accross that way?), not add additional complication.

Postal Bib Returns

I really appreciate all the information being posted by the bib officers arranging to collect bibs at events, but as a clarification for those of us not now going to make it to another event this year and because there doesn't seem to be any info for end of year bib return with the online system... ...
