Number of paddling judges (NUMBERS BELOW) is always lower on the Sunday compared to the Saturday regardless of whether the Prem event is first or second. This yr there were 2 events with div1 on Sat, prem on Sun: Graveyard Sat 52, Sun 19 paddling judges Tees Sat 42, Sun 14 paddling judges and 2 in ...

People who organise and run events and the timing team, section judges and jury are in the main not competing themselves, but are freely giving their services to give something back to a sport they and/or their children have enjoyed. Obviously, there is a limit to the number of weekends these volun...

If judges are forced to only take their runs at the scheduled time, then what does a judge, who is due to take his run soon, do when his replacement fails to turn up on time. We would end up with the race being stopped until the judge arrived. I have seen this happen at Mile End Mill where, through...

Whilst one can sympathise with 801, the idea that we have to ensure poles are not swinging before a paddler starts is an obvious non starter. We would end up with 3, 4 or even more minutes between paddlers as each paddler would be entitled to wait until the poles had been reported as not swinging. ...

Water levels on natural courses are always unpredictable well ahead of an event. However, as this is part and parcel of canoeing, surely we should embrace the variability! The implication of this comment is that we should limit div 1s to water where the level is more or less fixed week in and week ...

Though I pointed out the need for the category being quorate and having sufficient juniors, CP reminded us that these are judged against numbers on the start list. Thus how many juniors were there on the K1W start list prior to the event?

Excellent point CP

(I also agree that the slalom event at Orton Mere is a very enjoyable, friendly event. There is even encouragement to have a try at C2 for those who have ever felt even the slightest urge.)

This does sound surprising unless either the category (K1W) was not quorate or the category lacked sufficient juniors. Rule 34.6 which covers prizes states that: "where there are three or more eligible competitors, organisers shall provide a prize for the junior competitor who gains the best score ...

A system does exist. Anyone can apply to the ranking status officer and "On applying for a ranking a paddler may state the division preferred, but the Ranking Status Officer has the final say" (rulebook, p56). You don't even have to have entered an event at all, but obviously any Divisional, Judge ...
