Not sure why there would be a difference. Previous contributors have highlighted some of the problems with weighing boats. The technical team who are doing the weighing do seem to have most of the bases covered though: They were weighing boats dry, before paddlers took them to the water at both HPP ...

I too didn't fancy the prospect of a season's collection of strange symbols.

30 seconds with a bit of white spirits after each weekend has got rid of them both.

Simple question.

Is there any genuine reason or excuse for a paddler to try and enter a race with an underweight boat?

68 Kg !!!

It's a shame that us penguins need to maintain a certain amount of body fat to protect us from the cold water, otherwise I would have been interested!

I was told you had hit a skull. (It sounded a bit gruesome until it was explained to me what had happened).

Hope you're on the mend.

The usual thanks to the organisers and helpers for a good event. For those that didn't go, the second runs had to be cancelled after the Environment Agency closed the only open sluice on the weir, after lunch. I don't know the background to the operation of the sluices on Thames weirs but I presume ...

Thanks to everyone who helped organise the three races. My only comment would be that as the events become more popular year by year, the time taken to run each race inevitably increases. My suggestion would be to review the time intervals between higher division paddlers. Perhaps the gap between pa...

Thanks SC, CB88, B, & JS. I've been away for a few days and have only just read the replies. As no-one else seems to have suffered the symptoms, it looks like it was the curry! Makes sense as I've paddled loads of times at HPP and Stone and never been ill. However, just to be on the safe side, from...

Woke up this morning and felt a bit strange. Went to the bathroom and was violently sick and suffering from diarrhoea. I've spent all day in bed and am just starting to feel a bit better. Over the weekend, I'd: 1. Had a short paddle at Pierrepont on Saturday. 2. Paddled at the Stone mini Slalom on ...

Went to MEM today and spoke to JJ about the latest situation. 1. No further news on any access negotiations. 2. The business people in the town are fully (with very few exceptions) behind the restoration of the tours and races. 3. There is very limited public perception of our plight. Most visitors...

From the Rivers Guidebook discussion : Quote: Today, an enterprising BCU member (not me) emailed senior figures in BCU Access and suggested that a great publicity coup could be achieved by calling up the national media and giving them the current story - we have two slalom medalists but nowhere to ...

p.s as far as im concerned as long as this site has bcu, icf, and slalom logos on the front page. then it is affiliated to the slalom executive/commitee. Gareth The logo's that you see on the Slalom UK site are in the section headed "Links". The site is not an "official" site but (as Nick says) it ...

I heard that some changes to the course were being carried today.

Does anyone have any information of what they are?

..... and have they been successful?

Thanks DG for all your assistance. The boat is looking pretty good. The badly broken nose is repaired and the hull (whilst it looks like a patchwork quilt of small individual patches) might be watertight for the first time in ages. My usual supplier only stocked carbon or kevlar mat and so I took a ...

Calm down Steve. "The Slalom UK site is an independent website run for the sport of canoe slalom in the UK. Although informally recognised as "the" slalom website, it is not owned, controlled or funded by the BCU, the Slalom Executive, World Class Performance or UK Sport. Opinions expressed here are...

I helped to make some canoes about 20 years ago. I used to wash my hands in acetone to get rid of all the resin. I never realised that it was dodgy. I'm probably heading for an early grave. :( :( :( No flowers please. Donations in lieu to IAPP: (International Associatiation for the Protection of Pen...
