Re: Boat Weight Rules
Further to my previous post - If the ICF want to increase the minimum weight rule then that may be out of our control but surely it makes no sense to introduce it in the UK domestic divisions. Policing it will just be another job for race organisers to resource and manage. The only way it would be p...

Re: Boat Weight Rules
This rule makes no sense to me at all - manufacturers will still make non split boats as light as possible and the paddler will add some weight directly under their seat. If this is 1kg then it will be like the paddler being 1 kg heavier. All the benefits of the boat being light will still be availa...

Re: SCA Performance 2015 Consultation
"The point is that the SCA are trying their best to support paddlers in Scotland " - If the SCA had listened over the last 2 years then our programme wouldn't be in the mess it is now. "Seems to me that the SCA are communicating with the wider audience and are trying hard to make this work. It woul...

Re: Johnny Brown
The posts I have made on this subject, were driven by the pain and frustration I have felt watching good honest people suffer, I believe, unfairly. As a slalom community we are once again working together to try and move things forward positively and try and get our voice heard. In the interests of ...

Re: Johnny Brown
Jim, Thanks again for your reply, its good that a prominent member of the slalom world is prepared to show support and offer advice. Last night I received an email from the SCA Chief Excutive asking me to attend a meeting to discuss my 12 year old son's conduct as an SCA performance athlete. It look...

Re: Johnny Brown
Jimmy, Thanks for your advice, it much appreciated but as mentioned this has been going on now for two years and many respected members of our slalom committee and community have tried repeatedly to resolve things, and got nowhere. My son is one of the 'lucky few' who is on the programme so I am tak...

Re: Johnny Brown
People are scared to speak out about this in case we lose sportScotland funding or their child is blacklisted from the squad but is it right that we carry on when people who have dedicated 30 years of their life to our sport and have positively enhanced the lives of hundreds of youngsters be driven ...

Re: Johnny Brown
Although Johnny has just resigned, things have been very difficult in Scotland for a while. Two years ago our then Performance Director moved on and the SCA Chief Exec. and National Coach (Neil Caffrey) temporarily took over the responsibilities of the role. There was a communication issue between t...

Re: Johnny Brown
In summary, here is what has happened in Scotland over the last few years :- Neil Caffrey was appointed National Coach a few years ago. His vision was to build an 'inclusive' Scottish squad where paddlers of all abilities could be included and coached by the SCA and volunteer coaches. Camps were org...

Re: Serpents Tail cancelled
Having just returned from an 800 round trip to Llandysul this weekend and a 700 mile round trip to Nottingham last weekend, we would still be prepared to travel anywhere in the UK to attend this race. As active Scots paddlers we have not been to Tully since the August div1/2 race, our main focus has...
