Re: Ranking and Promotion

Wouldn't it be much simpler to go back to end of season promotion only, based on equalising the number of paddlers getting demoted with the number of paddlers promoted, taking account of historical natural wastage in each division?

Re: Simplifying Vets

Nick, I would certainly support such a proposal, but as I'm now paddling as an independent I won't get a vote at the ACM anyway. As you're probably aware I've become increasingly frustrated by the decline in challenging water available for div 2 races, and this is evidenced by a significant fall in ...

Re: New Points - Can I paddle down and get more points?

And as Dee has already said, this is what multi-divisional races allowed paddlers from lower divisions to do, get experience on harder water. Thus why move from this relatively simple system to the over-complicated one that is portable points?

Re: GET A LIFE

I think this post may just have volunteered you for toilet cleaning duty at Washburn... I will second that  Anyway pleased I have 2 out of 5 bibs back to my household and entries in for nearly all Div1/2 and some Prem this year for the Mitchell family. Got my life sorted. I rest my case!

Re: GET A LIFE

Thanks, I like to be provocative. Personally I'm usually too busy in the winter river running to even start thinking about the slalom again until March, apart from some agent provocateur activities on this forum. But, then again, I try to pay the relevant bib officer the curtesy of sending him/her t...

GET A LIFE

I get the impression from a fairly terse message from Nick on the web site that some paddlers have already been applying - often without the correct documentation - for their 2017 bibs. The first race of the season isn't for the best part of two months yet - GET A LIFE!

Re: Boat Weight Rules

Glad to hear that the new weight rule will not apply to divs 2 to 4. Not sure why it is being applied to div 1 to be honest - I can't envisage why many of them would be involved in international competition. On a totally different subject, it has just occurred to me that an unintended consequence of...

Re: Boat Weight Rules

Actually Windsor CC, it is a bit of a pain in the proverbial. Those of us who have bought boats in recent years have done so during the more relaxed weight regime, thus I suspect that many have little or no idea what their boat weighs. I certainly have no idea what mine does and have no facilities a...

Re: Boat Weight Rules

A couple of questions: 1) Does the ICF have any empirical evidence to demonstrate that an 8kg boat will give a consistently better set of results than a 9kg one? Just a reminder that to test this the same paddler would need to paddle the same boat design at 8kg and 9kg over the same course a conside...

Re: Boat Weight Rules

I'm at a loss to understand why the ICF has re-introduced this rule. What issue(s) is it addressing? Unfair advantage? In that case why isn't there a rule enforcing a standard boat design? Safety issues? The 9kg rule for K1 dates back to 4m+ boats - why should it apply to boat designs that are aroun...

Re: 6.13 Simplification of the Paddle Up Rules

I'm well aware of that CeeBee, which is the reason the term 'paddle up' was in inverted commas. From where I'm standing Canadian Paddler it seems that multi-divisional races were discouraged in anticipation of portable points being accepted. The reason why div 1 races are oversubscribed is that the ...

Re: 6.13 Simplification of the Paddle Up Rules

Actually CeeBee until recently div 2 paddlers were also able to 'paddle up' at division 1/2 races - at Tully, Tees Barrage, Abbey Rapids, Washburn, HPP, The Tryweryn, to name just a few - until the powers that be decided to discontinue multi-divisional races above 2/3s. There were also a number of P...

Re: Lee Valley Div2/Open

Make the most of it Reformed Boy. According to the draft calendar at the moment it doesn't looks like anyone's going to get a chance to compete in a ranking slalom at Lee Valley, either on the Olympic or Legacy course, in 2017!

Cheers,
James
