Re: OHM Training Device?
Same idea as using a bungee or a rope around the boat to increase resistance when training, but it has some much bigger blocks to add even more resistance. Should probably work up from a bungee to thick rope and then OHM device rather than jumping right in - I find the effect of a bungee on my WWR q...

Re: Abandoning the season?....
I think it is quite clear that as things stand everyone is going to be a year behind where they might have been, the squad system is going to have to be reconsidered to account for that. I think you should focus on lobbying whoever comes up with the squad policies, and the IP for selection, to get t...

Re: Abandoning the season?....
It is a **** situation we are all in right now, but lets try and focus on rebuilding to have a great season in 2021 instead of worrying about what could have been in 2020. I know there will be juniors who will roll over to U23 and U23's to senior who will have been robbed of the chance to try to win...

Re: Abandoning the season?....
Hopefully the Slalom Committee will be able to develop some strategies to mitigate these potential impacts. You do know the slalom committee consists of normal (well normalish) human beings - not a superman cape in existence that I'm aware of. :D   The glimmer of hope here is that apparen...

Re: Abandoning the season?....
Everyone was able to race before lockdown was introduced Sorry, but I'm going to have to disagree with that! Stone (which is north Midlands), is the furthest north any race was held in 2020 (div 3/4) The only div 2 races were at Shepperton. Rule 19.1.1 implies that below div 1 a competition's catch...

Re: Abandoning the season?....
On a more serious note and hopefully when racing starts next year. Could it be a consideration to think about a fast track promotion system for the first part of next year. Their's probably going to be a lot of young paddlers that have trained hard and improved a lot. Then there will be those that ...

Re: Yat technical question
Your problem with rope and cord is that it is generally rated by minimum guaranteed breaking load (un knotted), an individual sample could have an actual breaking load much greater than that, at least when new and before degraded by UV and possibly water (nylon for example has a relatively high wate...

Re: Lee Valley Div 1
We pretty much always have flying boats and chairs at Pinkston, it was already on Chris' Baillie's RA before I took over the div 2! :D We don't need a storm, we just have a surprisingly exposed site. The garden/judging chairs usually sink slowly enough that paddlers can recover them for us, and we u...

Re: Non quorat classes and paddle ups
I don't think K1W and C1W should as a general rule be compared to mens classes. If you did a statistical analysis of the results over the last 5 years, you would find that the variance in women classes v mens classes depends on the length and difficulty of the course. This is why I think some kind ...

Re: Non quorat classes and paddle ups
Best situation would be to award points based on comparison with largest class for all other classes. Modifiers should be retained, but either reviewed annually, or by on the fly normalisation of the results for all other classes assuming the winner of each deserves top points. The latter would make...

I'd missed the 15m cable, was thinking the starter would have to be next to it to reset... Perfect then!

Re: Hexham Slalom Location?
I suspect the confusion is that Hexham CC run the races at Wark. I'm sure there used to be some gates at Hexham between Tyne green and the island (main river is too wide), but it is very flat and would only suit div 4 and maybe 3. I'm thinking of early-90's, I wouldn't have paid them much attention ...

Re: Start countdown clock
That's a great thing to do, now I won't have the starter accidentally yelling into the headset at Washburn! And they will have less of a sore throat. Thanks! I think you are still going to have the starter shouting at Washburn, it is difficult for anyone but especially C1s to sit in the start eddy ...
