(a) Ref Coca Cola: it works because unlike the other fizzy drinks it contains Phosphoric Acid - a key ingredient of medicines like Lomotil
(b) However the hospitals etc that use it recommend letting it go flat - otherwise the fizzyness can have the opposite effect

Dear Canadian Paddler (You see I respect your right to anonymity) It was the Perfekt - but it was a Lettmann boat, not a Prijon. When I was paddling in Ireland in the 70's they had been abandoned for Slalom, but were still being used for White Water Racing - imagine that when you came to overtake J...

Dave I can still (just!!) remember being taught the bow rudder when it came in (in the mid-70's, I think) The justification for putting the blade in at the front was so that when exiting an eddy you reached forward into the current, therefore got turn earlier, and conversely when breaking out. In o...

The UKSCA would say that you should supplement your paddling with strength training - specific, free weights, etc LTAD says that up to the start of the growth spurt everyone should be doing 3 sports - and certainly up to the end of the growth spurt at least two sports (and that is 3/2 sports, NOT d...

I think that here we have to draw a clear distinction between Prem/Div 1 events with Section Judges in place, and Div 1 - Div 4 events without Section Judges in place. I (fairly) frequently act as Jury Chairman at lower division events; I see it as my duty to investigate paddlers' queries before th...

I do wonder if all our press releases are as clear as they might be. OK you expect the Nottingham Evening Post to get things wrong (Paul Ratcliffe has good medal prospects, Heahtrre Corrie and Laura Blakeman outsiders; story illustrated with drawings of sprint boats) But when the Daily Telegraph as ...
