Re: Portable Points - New Proposals
Paddling up more than 1 division Fair points - I agree it was a daft idea. Paddle ups slower than the last paddler all get the same points Again, fair point - whatever the promotion target points gained from a failed paddle up are not going to be one of the 5 results that count. You can tell I didn...

Re: ICF Rule Changes
23.3 The boat must be stationary at the start Not that it's new, but this is a curious rule: it could be read as meaning that the boat must be timed from a standing start. And it's not, and it isn't meant to be. That's what I was trying to get at yesterday in a message I decided not to submit becau...

Re: Demos - Paddle up + Portable points impacting numbers?
It occurs to me that we have digressed from the original point which was about demos rather than judges - the potential pool from which to draw demo paddlers is considerably smaller than the pool from which to draw judges. It also only affects prem events and div 1 paddlers. CeeBee makes the point t...

Re: ICF Rule Changes
Shockingly I have obviously never read, or never taken in, the start rule. I can only think of one race I've done in divisions 2 & 3 where boats started from stationary (held), generally the start line is in the flow and paddlers are a given a countdown so they can judge leaving the eddy to arrive a...

Re: Demos - Paddle up + Portable points impacting numbers?
Something similar was proposed for one of the Scottish races this year (I can't remember which one, probably ours!) when there were very few volunteers to judge within a few days of the event. It was a more simple (perhaps less fair) proposal - simply to allocate a judging position and time slot to ...

Re: Demos - Paddle up + Portable points impacting numbers?
Surely we just need paddlers to appreciate that if they aren't consistently finishing in the top half of their current division (maybe as little as top quarter?) they are wasting their time paying to paddle up and would be much better off offering to do demos or judge to get free runs on the harder ...

Re: UK 19.8 - Safety Rule - Comment?
Polo bans players for breaking the rules so I'd don't see why slalom can't. Most of the things polo players can get banned for are deliberately and immediately dangerous to another player, that said arguing with the ref repeatedly will also do it. I think our 2 most likely players to get carded are...

Re: Portable Points - New Proposals
I have found time to read through the proposal in detail now, it looks pretty workable and promising, but a couple of things come to mind that might be worthy of more consideration/discussion. - The proposal only allows paddlers to paddle up one division, which is probably enough of a step for most ...

Re: Lee Valley Div2/Open
I was always due to miss this years Div 2 but was hoping to be able to make it next year, sounds like that it isn't going to be on the calendar now :( The original question was about why the late change to a single day, which hasn't been answered. Obviously it was a difficult decision (or external i...

Re: Future of C2
Maybe they should separate out a Water Olympics or even WhiteWater Olympics the way the winter sports are separated out, so the pool of athletes can managed separately allowing for a larger number of disciplines and sports to be involved. Slalom should have all genders in all classes (+ mixed C2?), ...

If tennis can have both single sex and mixed doubles in the Olympics, why can't slalom?

Annoyingly I will be stuck in traffic trying to get to polo training when David does his semifinal run this evening - hope he has another good one! I'll need to catch up when I get home.

Re: Proposed rule change.
All paddlers promoted in a season get Short Season protection at the end of the year, so they do not need points to stay up. It is only reinstated paddlers who don't have SS protection unless their reinstatement was after 31st July. OK, so points don't matter so much to promotees then, unless they ...
