Re: Non quorat classes and paddle ups

"I am considering to propose at the next ACM that Paddle Up results get calculated as if they are racing in the Class they have entered."

Good luck with that, divisional paddlers will be up in arms. Many were when they thought that's what PU meant.

Re: British Canoeing - Club Consultation Survey (Not the same as Stronger Together 2021-2025 survey)

I need to read the full info on this but from what I've seen this will have a dire effect on a lot of clubs and the sport. The last set of changes a few years back lost us a lot of coaches as they were not prepared to redo their qualifications. It appears not only may we once again lose some due to ...

Re: Start countdown clock

RE: Washburn That is the whole point they don't have to face the starter, the clock can be placed anywhere, and as it beeps those who want to face the' wrong way' can do so and just use the tones if they wish. At Washburn I would expect it would be at the top of the eddy, those who wish to start fac...

Re: Start countdown clock

Thanks for the feedback and positive ideas. Start interval can be from 15-90 seconds (I can easily program different settings). Great minds think alike, I've added a smaller display on the back so the starter can hopefully see what is happening to the main display. When on pause the time on both dis...

Start countdown clock

I've developed an Arduino based start count down clock which I'm just finishing off and interested in comments/input/suggestions Specification (so far). 6.5" 2 digit super bright LED display Piezo beeper requires 12v supply (external battery or mains adapter) Single button operation (on a 15m cable,...

Re: No Howsham?

Sadly not, Howsham hall is now being run as a profitable wedding venue so its not possible. I can't see it returning to the calendar.

This can often happen, for instance if someone decides to go VET.

Paddleup Percentiles

Good news for those paddlers in smaller divisions we have tweaked the PU percentile slightly to be fairer to top ranked paddlers in smaller divisions. For those of you interested in the formula it was simply:- ceil((rank/totalbibs)*100) and is now ceil((rank/totalbibs)*100) - floor(100/totalbibs) ma...

Re: 6.2 Entry Fees

I doubt there is a single event that covers actual costs as we have a lot of volunteers who claim no expenses. This isn't however about covering costs (thus the event costs the club £0) it is about clubs being able to make a reasonable 'profit' to allow them to encourage more participation, improve ...

Re: 6.2 Entry Fees

Good point. The enhanced entry fee rule is to 'cover' costs, not make a profit so would you get permission? Organisers may not have thought of it due to having to request permission and it also been a relatively new rule. I guess like late entry fees an event might worry they would lose out to anoth...

Re: 6.1 Veterans Trophies

Can I suggest we add.

Where both trophies would be awarded to the same paddler, the Alan Harwood Trophy will be awarded to the Veteran ranked second (or words to that effect).

Re: ACM Discussion Point 1

Long term perhaps we need to start thinking about more regional races, is travelling hundreds of miles for a race sustainable both in terms of cost and the environment. I certainly think it causes an issue with take up of the sport and retention.

Re: 6.2 Entry Fees

The problem is some venues are easy to run and others are not. One may be near the club facilities, or at a venue and pretty much switch on, the biggest job being putting the gates out (on existing wires) and running tutty. Others are literally a blank canvas, with everything having to be transporte...

Re: Promotion and 50's

Div 4's were my main thought. But it is probably too random a reason to exclude from promotion, perhaps just being able to opt out of promotion is the solution. I'm not sure. There are paddlers who would prefer not to be promoted (yet). I wasn't suggesting anyone would deliberately do a 50 to avoid ...

Re: Promotion and 50's

If you've got into the top 20% with a 50, the other paddlers' results must be awful and it may well be too difficult a course. Is anyone awful? I'd hope not. In prem a 50 destroys your run, in some of the lower divisions this is not always the case. A prem paddler might do a course in 90 or less se...
