Yorkshire Access - Washburn springs to mind!

Post by Seedy Paddler » Fri Jul 24, 2015 12:22 pm

Just seen this and thought worth sharing for the local slalom community to ensure they are involved....
We are currently in the process of putting together a response to Yorkshire Water for a consultation they are running. This is looking at ways they can increase the accessibility of their land and water for a wide range of outdoor activities. We are strongly advocating on the need for increased access to open water venues for all paddlers - from beginners to the highly experienced.

The consultation has been aimed at organisations and stakeholders involved in outdoors recreation, and is very much aimed more towards the actual facilitation of increasing access - for example facilities needed, costings, potential providers and partners. However, we'd love to hear from paddlers to help us inform our response.

If you live in or around the Yorkshire Water region, please let us know if you know which reservoirs and lakes would be particularly suitable for paddling - especially if you feel these can easily have facilities provided to help improve accessibility.

For more information, or to submit your ideas, please email us at access@britishcanoeing.org.uk.

I believe the washburn comittee or someone acting on their behalf has been at meetings.

Duncan is correct, the Yorkshire Region Development team (of which the Washburn Committee are a sub-committee) are engaged in this consultation, attending the initial meeting with YW and had an open meeting of paddlers from across all disciplines at the end of June to bring forward ideas for submission to YW.

This is looking at where we can gain access to YW reservoirs but also where they have sites on rivers (pumping stations, or own land in the water catchment area) that can be used for river access.

For more details see http://canoe-england-yorkshire.org.uk/r ... our-ideas/ also on this page is a link to the YW background document.

For more information and suggestions contact John Bates, Yorkshire Region Chair (rdtchair@yorcie.org.uk).
