Resolving ties in Vet results:

Perhaps when several vets score max points, we could have a system where the last vet on max points get max points, the next faster vet gets max+1, then max+2 etc.
An odd point here or there will not make much difference to year end rankings, EXCEPT the situation where several people have a clean sweep of 500s from div 2 - if some people have a 501 os similar reflecting that they were a bit faster than the other vets in that race, it would be enough to tip the points in the favour of the vet who wins when several are scoring max.

We could possibly do the same or opposite where vets tie in last place (opposite = fastest gets min points, next gets min-1 etc.) but very often there are vets tied in the middle (or at least above the paddlers with 50s penalties) so if last goes opposite what to do with middle? Actually, I think leave mid field and last place ties alone, it only really makes a difference to ranking for ties on max points.

If we adopt multipliers, the +points should be added after mulitplying so they have minimal effect, just to resolve race day ties and end of season ties.

There are rules re ties, unfortunately there are about 5 or 6 of them and some of them are contradictory and the others might be described as unclear. Slalom committee are looking at it.

Currently the ranking database purely works on best 5 results and then lowest bib.

How it should work according to the rules (well one of them) :-

500 450 450 450 450 <= ranked higher as 1st result is best
450 500 450 450 450

450 500 450 450 450 300 300 300 <= ranked highest as after checking 1st 5 which means we then go to the next best results until we find the best
450 500 450 450 450 300 300 200

Unfortunately nothing defines what happens if they are the same all the way.......... and there are a few contradictions in the rules

That (non-transparently and perhaps even confusingly) deals with end of year ranking ties, but doesn't allow for separation of results at a race where several vets score max points. Adding an extra point would sort it out on the day and usually for annual ranking making it much clearer and rewarding whoever wins on the day compared to the others who beat the divisional paddlers. Should we be looking at tidying up vets ties (I have heard grumblings), is the deadline for motions today?

Is final resolution by whoever started with the lower bib number a rule (for vets or other divisions) or just something that has been applied?

Well said Nick Penfold >>> 'I completely agree with Bob that the Vets' points system needs sorting out, but I think his multipliers would have some very extreme consequences.'

I support Bob's proposal, I fully understand the need to reward the challenge, and as he stated currently the points are not conducive with competitive performance.
