Symonds Yat Div 3/4 - 7th and 8th May

Post by RobK » Wed Apr 06, 2022 7:37 pm

Hi All

The full event information will be published next to the event listing on UK Slalom shortly and when Nick is back. Due to the parking constraints and general busyness of the Symonds Yat area, this event will be based at the Biblins camp site. This is a beautiful spot just down river from the course. We are hoping people will camp there and make a weekend of it and we plan to have a sociable BBQ on the Saturday evening. You can also park at the Biblins camp site as a day visitor and there is plenty of space.

The course itself will be on the bottom part of the rapids which is about a 15 minute walk from the camp site and a nice easy paddle back. The river is generally much lower than when we host the Div 2/3, paddlers should expect some flow but the course will be set appropriately for a Div 3/4 .

That's a great solution - we used to use Biblins as a base for Symonds Yat on scout camps and I remember paddling up from the camp site in open canoes, should be very easy in slalom boats!

We've had a few people e-mailing us about camping/event arrangements. Please see the full event info which is published next to the race details on the UK Slalom home page (on the left hand side).

In summary Symonds Yat is a beautiful spot in the Wye Valley but can be a tourist honey spot. We can't get permission to use the normal site car park and access due to site congestion. So the course will be on the lower part of the rapids but all parking and camping will be downstream at the Biblins camp site. It's around a 15 minute walk up to the course and a nice paddle back! It's also a beautiful and peaceful place to camp right by the river.

We have reserved some pitches but you if you want to camp you need to let us know and pay in advance - see the full event info.

We are looking forward to a great weekend of racing at the Yat. River levels are perfect and the weather forecast warm. If you know the site the course will be on the rapids with the Div 4 on the lower easier section.

On-line entries are now closed but we will accept entries on the day. A provisional start list is now on UK Slalom next to the race listing (left hand side of the homepage). We will adjust the Div 4 times to allow more of a gap between runs for paddlers racing in both divisions. If there is appetite we may also run an friendly teams event on Saturday afternoon.

As per previous posts the site has its logistical challenges. To ease congestion on Symonds Yat East we ask that people park at the Biblins Camp Site and walk or paddle up to the course. Biblins will be the main event hub for the weekend. It's about a 15 min walk or paddle from Biblins to the course so being some food, drink and dry kit.

Found a pair of sunglasses at this weekend's event. Let me know if you have lost some. Rob
