Bala Mill - Div 2/3 Paddling Up

Post by andy n » Fri Apr 27, 2012 10:30 pm

Info for the Bala Mill Div 2/3 suggests Div 3's will race on different course to Div 2's. Presumably then the Div 3 paddlers cannot get paddle up results. Disappointing for those chasing promotion from Div 3 with two consecutive weekends of Div 3 races cancelled (Outibridge and Matlock). Why are the Div 3's not racing on the same course as the Div 2's?

The div 2 paddlers normally start in the pool just below the falls. The Div 3 paddlers start lower down, therfore missing a possible tricky upstream breakout.

My understanding and i'm sure i will corrected by people with far more knowledge than me if i'm wrong, that if Div 3 paddlers are paddling up then they would start in the same place as the Div 2 paddlers.

If a paddler enters div3, paddles the div 3 course and gets div3 points he/she cannot compare the results with the higher division for paddle up purposes, because the courses are different.

I think that to do the div 2 course a div3 paddler could explicitly enter the div 2 race to paddle up (and pay div2 entry fees). In this case the paddler would not be competing in div 3 and would therefore not obtain div 3 points

Given that the races are on different courses is there anything to stop a paddler entering the div 2 race and the div3 race as two separate entries. Whilst I don't think that this was envisaged when the rule was introduced, I think it could be within the rule as formed.

I agree with you, Dee. While it doesn't seem 'right'; given that there are 2 different courses on this occasion, I think the rules (at least as I understand them) would allow for this, provided the person entered both competitions.
Generally dual division races use the same course, in which case this wouldn't arise - and is covered in earlier posts.
