I will put together a start list this weekend, as I will have a clearer idea of the water release pattern (start time of release - 830 /9am and end of water time 4 / 6 pm) for the weekend itself.

Event info is posted on www.canoeslalom.co.uk

All division one paddlers will be asked to do some judging / running over the weekend. I hope to limit this judging to 30 minute stints (after your race run), while Welsh paddlers will be involved in the organisation of the event in other capacities. Paddlers who are doubling up, those who are undertaking some section judging and paddlers who have entered alongside a paddler will not be entered in the rota.

Thanks

Tryweryn division 1 slalom 31st May / 1st June

I am in the process of putting the start list together with times and will post a detailed timetable once we have a clearer idea of water times.

There is no total guarantee of water on this weekend, but the chances of water on both days are more than reasonable at the moment. We are hoping to have water between 830 am and 630 pm each day, although the timetable will look to complete by 430 pm, in case there is a restriction on water releases.

Saturday - draft timetable.
830 am - official practice
1030 am - K1Men 1st and 2nd runs
1.45 pm - 4.15 pm Veterans, K1W, C1M, C1W, C2, Officials

Sunday
830 am - official practice
1030 am - Veterans, K1W, C1M, C1W, C2
1.00 pm - K1Men, Officials

Also - a quick heads up - Bala is hosting the Urdd Eisteddfod - a National festival of youth arts during the week before and the weekend itself. This attracts about 6000 competitors over the week and up to 30000 attendees a day. Bala will be busy on the campsites, in accommodation and the town itself. The Eisteddfod site is located on the A494, between Bala and Llanfor - allow extra time or take an alternative route to the centre (possibly using the B4501 road between Cerrig y Drudion and Frongoch), although this is likely to be busy as well.

I will look to post an update during the week, which might give an option of the best routes to take prior / over the weekend.

A provisional start list for the Tryweryn division one next Saturday / Sunday has been posted on http://www.canoeslalom.co.uk. Please note this may change if timings of water release changes - check the start list at control over the w/e for any updates.

Due to the current timings of water releases and number of entries, we will only be able to confirm late entries for newly promoted paddlers on Thursday, once we know the length of water releases.

In order for the event to be run, paddlers will be asked to judge over the weekend for 30 minutes or so (after your competition run) - a time for the judging will be listed alongside run times at control. K1 Men will judge on Saturday afternoon. C1 & K1 Women will judge before 1530 on the Sunday and Welsh paddlers will judge on late Sunday afternoon.

Look forward to seeing you there.

Many thanks to all who attended the race at Tryweryn this weekend, either as paddlers or as volunteers making the race happen. We are blessed to have such a great group of people willing to make the sport happen - putting the course up, organising the race prior to the race weekend, in control, timing, clerking, at prestart, start, judging as section judges or as gate judges, on finish, on the jury, picking up loose ends without being asked, coaching, giving information, racing, promoting the sport, clearing up at the end of the day, posting results and completing the administration. If you can get involved in any parts of the sport, please do - it is a case of the more you put in the more you get out. If you don't get involved, you may turn around one day and the sport you love may not be there.

Highlights of the weekend for me - Chris, who was covering rescue for his family, but also helped anybody else out who needed it; Rebecca, who helped out in control with a smile that made for a relaxed Sunday afternoon; talking to paddlers / coaches from France, Latvia, Ireland, Russia and Spain as well as all over the UK who enjoyed the racing on the Tryweryn; PBs for Welsh paddlers who worked well with voluntary coaches and meeting/seeing people who love watching racing from the vantage point of organising the event.

Paddlers, performing athletes, volunteers and coaches inspire me – thanks for a great weekend.

Richard Lee
