Bala Mill Division 3/4 slalom Saturday 2nd / Sunday 3rd May 2015

Organised by Bala Canoe Club To be held below Bala Mill on the lower section of the river Tryweryn at Bala, Gwynedd, LL3 7RY . For details: contact Richard.lee65@btinternet.com

Event information The event is being held on the Bala Mill section of the river Tryweryn (this is a grade 1-2 white water section of river) , in the the town of Bala, on the side of the A4212. If entering Bala on the A494, take the A4212 to Porthmadog. 600 metres after this junction, there is a small track after a housing estate on the right (opposite the artificial sports pitch). Turn down this track and follow this to the river. The water release is controlled by Natural Resources Wales, and a release will be confirmed on the Thursday before the weekend. Please ring the water information line on 01678 520826 or the water information page on www.ukrafting.co.uk before travelling. The event will run regardless of water release, but water conditions may vary from day to day.
Race entries Race entries will be open until 10 am on the Saturday morning – although it would be welcomed if you could indicate if you are attending the race, either by postal entry or email to Richard.lee65@btinternet.com. A start list will be displayed on www.canoeslalom.co.uk the weekend before.

Course practice There will be time for free practice on the race course prior to the weekend pending water release(Thursday / Friday) – while there will be practice time on Saturday / Sunday morning.

Race times It is anticipated there will be a release between 9.30am and 5.30 pm on each day. Practice at 11am and racing starts at around 12.30pm on each day. Race times at 1 minute, unless change is required.

Jury chair tbc. Judges There will be an officials event. Please check the judging rota onwww.canoeslalom.co.uk and at control on race day.

Camping, toilets, a standing tap and car parking are available on site – no booking required - £3 per head per night, no charge for under 12s. Other campsites (with shops / showers) and accommodation providers can be contacted through Bala Tourist Information Centre (TIC), Bala, Gwynedd, LL23 7SR. Tel: 01678 521021 www.visitbala.org . There will be catering on site –tea, coffee and snacks.

Photography The event is being held in an open air public area and there may be both professional and casual photographers taking pictures at the site. While we cannot control this, we ask that photographers make themselves known to control.

Safety access and egress There will be rescue facilities on site, while it is anticipated there will be rescue boats on the river during racing. Two boats should remain in the finish area at all times. Please remember canoeing/kayaking are Assumed risk – Water contact sports that may carry attendant risks. Participants should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own action and involvement.
