HPP 1/2 7th & 8th May

Post by davebrads » Mon Jan 11, 2016 7:45 pm

Hi all. I am running an experiment this year, that is to run a division 1 and a division 2 race at HPP over the same weekend. This is in the belief that division 2 is again now strong enough to support a race on decent white water. Unfortunately due to the cost of hiring the course I am having to charge an enhanced fee of £5 per entry.

There is the obvious option for division 2 paddlers to "paddle up" in the division 1 race. Unfortunately I think it is unlikely that I will have any space available for paddle ups and therefore I won't be processing such entries until the closing date for the race. I will be saving these entries in a queue so if you do want to send an entry in please do, but can you make separate cheques out for each day so that I don't have to deal with making refunds.

I've just had it pointed out to me that my first paragraph isn't very clear. The £5 enhanced entry fee only applies to division 2 entries. Division 1 entries are the standard entry fee.

A number of entries received/start lists have been posted either in the chatter or on the slalom website for races well into the season, could you advise when a list of entries will be posted for this race please :)

Thanks

I'm still dithering and I don't know why, probably because its a long way to go, and probably because I have a kite buggy event that weekend.
I think I first paddled at HPP in 1989, but I have never raced there (did a couple of student rodeos in the '90's).
For most of my life it has been the top slalom site in the UK, although I never raced in all that time, I probably should send an entry in just in case this is the only div 2 Dave ever runs there....

I hate making decisions!

Due to an administrative error, totally my fault, we have failed to book the course on the weekend of the race. Other activities have been booked on the course for that weekend and we won't be able to run the race on the published dates. I will be investigating the possibility of moving it over the course of next week with the centre management and will let you know more as soon as possible.

I am assuming entries will be transfered to the new date, to save us re-entering?

Yes, I'm continuing to process the entries received. And of course anyone can cancel their entry if they can't make the new date and I'll shred the cheque.

Ooh, I've been deliberating about entering because I had something else on that weekend that I didn't want to decline, fingers crossed the new dates will work better for me!

It turns out that the booking form was sent to the centre last August, so now I will be bouncing the problem back at them, but of course they are not in until Tuesday. I guess that we will still be facing the same problems that HPPCC are with their race though.

BTW I must thank Michelle Grudzinski for spotting that I hadn't sent the form to the right person and had sent it on for me.

Realistically, if they have booked other activities for the weekend you may have a problem anyway, though it might be possible to use their error as grounds for "sensible" pricing on an alternative weekend.

Then the prem/1 could use your price as a precedent for re-negotiating theirs, then ......

........was that a pink pig flying past?

(PS. Not intending to belittle issues or efforts. Many sympathies with the issues you are having; is any race straight forward these days)

Has anyone considered moving the event to another location.
How about the Tryweryn on the grave yard.
This could be a better option than an alternative weekend as everyone has planed there diaries.

I would guess there are the same issues there too which is why we (Div 1/2) only race at Chapel Falls (below where the rafts get out).

I would agree Duncan. That and the logistics of a club ring to run an event in a completely different country! Though I know Manchester have succeeded before!
